Well it is almost time again for this great event. Hopefully you have made your Grand Sierra Resort reservations, as I understand the accommodations are filling up fast. By all indications everyone really enjoyed their stay last year. The hotel just completed additional facilities and improvements in the main lobby for everyone to enjoy. The hotels family fun center was a huge highlight last year and I am sure the juniors are excited about spending more time there again.
The first event will be Friday evening. The juniors will once again have their annual fun night. Carla Malson is in charge of the evening. Enough can’t be said for what Carla has done over the countless years for her dedicated work and support of all juniors.

The Reno Livestock Event Center is the place to be at 9:00 am Saturday. This is the junior show day and this event is always extremely competitive.

A number of these animals have already won at various shows which adds to the intensity of the competition. After the state group classes, is the junior showmanship competition. You will have the opportunity to see some of the best showmen in the country compete in the various age groups.

Jeannie Yardley is this years judge for the junior show. Jeannie grew up on a very successful family operation in Beaver, UT. She has a lifetime hands on understanding of the cattle and ranching business. She has been and continues to be a major contributor to the ranches superior purebred cattle and successful annual sales. Jeannie has a refreshing personality, is enthusiastic about the cattle business and really enjoys working with the juniors at shows.

The 2010 WSSA queen will receive her crown before the owned Champion Heifer is selected. These young ladies are great assets at Angus functions and activities.

The National Junior Associations “Raising the Bar Leadership Conference,” marks the end of the junior activities day at the Grand Sierra Resort.

Sunday is the 58th WNAF Super ROV Female Show in the Event Center, where some of the greatest young Angus females of the breed will be competing.

Shane Lindsey from Prairie City, IA is the open show judge. He comes to Reno with outstanding recommendations. Shane is a highly respected cattleman and reliable judge of beef cattle. His lifetime experiences include successfully breeding, fitting and showing purebred cattle at the national level.

Prior to the selection of the Grand Champion female, the WNAF dedication in honor of Mel Hansen takes place. A wonderful article on Mel was published in the January issue of Angus The Magazine. Mel has been and continues to be a true ambassador for the Angus breed and the WNAF. He is the one person you can always depend on to help out during the futurity. Mel was a great asset during his numerous years as a board member, and continued to contribute innovative ideas and foresight. Regardless of various situations and their circumstances Mel always comes with a positive attitude and infectious smile.

Following the female show, the Show Girl Review sale cattle can be viewed in the show ring area. The sale managers will be Jake Parnell and John Dickinson again this year. As always the sale offers females of show quality, donor prospects, future foundation females, embryos, flushes, and heifer calf pregnancies. Historically this sale represents some of the very best quality and genetics in the Angus breed.

Sunday evening at 7:00 pm Cara Ayres and Beth Schreiber will take the stage performing the musical they have written “Suds N Suds.” Last years performance was a tremendous success and this entertainment promises to be an evening to remember. Monday, the 58th WNAF Super ROV Show Continues. Bulls, cow-calves, and groups will be showing. This is a great opportunity to view these superior herd bull prospects.

The Big Draw Down will be announced during show breaks. I urge you to purchase tickets, as the income helps cover operating expenses.
