A huge crowd gathered on a
beautiful fall day to witness a truly strong event. Quality
Angus bulls were in strong demand. Seven bulls sold for $5,000
or more. Charolais offering was very strong but saw limited
interest. Each bull received a 331/3 lb Diamond Protein and
Energy block compliments of Cargill Animal Nutrition. Volume
buying honors went to Mike Urrutea, Friant, CA. The sale was up
$440 per bull over the 2008 event. Another top event for the
breeders involved.

When I left the sale my car
thermometer read 100º, the sale barn had to be 10 - 15º hotter
and the sale itself was another 100º hotter yet. Truly a super
event for Vintage. Big, big crowd of the who’s who in the
commercial business. Bulls very well presented and sold as fast
as you could open the gates. Jim & Sue Coleman were again
superior hosts and Doug Worthington, Brad Worthington, & Jason
Judge had everything in order for a very professional smooth
running event. Indeed a super event for a super breeding
program. The only thing you would change, would be to add a
couple fans to move that hot, hot air around.

After two days of extremely wet
weather, the sun broke out sale morning to greet a large, large
crowd with breeders on the seats from 13 states. Cattle sold at
a rapid fire pace to buyers from 11 states. The top end of the
2009 heifers saw strong interest. The Weaver hospitality was at
its usual high level of quality. The presale get together at
Weaver Ridge was well attended and enjoyed. The Weaver family,
Bob, Virginia, Jerry & Nancy and children along with Manager
Dean Janssen and Herdsman Bret Parr had everything in super
order. Our hats are off to the Weavers in celebrating their 74th
Anniversary in the Angus business.

A crowd of over 200 Angus
enthusiasts from seven states were on hand to witness the 1st
Red Carpet event hosted by Pheasant Trek, the Danekas family,
Wilton, CA, along with HAVE Angus, the Vietheers and the Hansens,
Wilton, CA. The facilities were well dressed for the occasion
and the cattle sold at a rapid pace. The quality was superb,
presentation excellent, and everyone enjoyed a home cooked lunch
along with the fine wine from Valhalla Cellars. Excellent demand
for the young show prospects and herd bulls prospects. It was a
fun atmosphere and enjoyed by all in attendance. The 4-H & FFA
judging contest coordinated by Mike Albiani and Hugh Mooney was
won by the Atascadero FFA consisting of Alex Barba, Hunter
Scroggins and Ryan De Busk. Top individual judging honors went
to Aaron Kerlee. A job extremely well done by all involved. |
