In Memoriam
John Henry Dimke

John Henry Dimke, Clarkston, WA, age 59, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 18. He is survived by his mother, Aulene Dimke Anderson; his sister Darlene Howell; his wife Janice; his daughters, Monica and husband Aaron Dewitt, and Kit; his son, Mitch and Molly; and his four granddaughters, Alex, Rylee, Sydney and Charlie.

John was born in Lewiston on Jan 14, 1949. Raised in Clarkston, he graduated form Clarkston High School in 1967, and then attended Lewis-Clark State College. The following year, he married Janice, his perfect match even 40 years later. After a brief stint as a dispatcher for the Clarkston Police Department, John served the following 20 years as the truck foreman at Guy Bennett Lumber Co. In his early years, John loved everything about cars, restoring them and also drag racing. Later, he found inspiration in the mountains and the woods. He enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in Anatone and then Joseph, OR., horseback riding in the Blue Mountains, boating on Wallowa Lake, and he was an avid hunter.

Each spring John spent his time assisting and encouraging his children, and later his granddaughters, with their 4–H and FFA projects, especially raising steers for the Asotin County Fair. This is where he developed his love of cattle. For the past 25 years, John diligently and painstakingly built his herd of Angus cattle known as Dimke Angus Ranch-first as a hobby and then as his profession. He sold cattle privately plus participated in area consignment sales.

Whether rain or shine, snow or blistering heat, John could be found at his ranch, tending to his cattle. One of the things he enjoyed most was watching the baby calves run and buck across the hillsides at the ranch. He served on the board of directions of the Washington Angus Association and was a member of the American Angus Association.

John was an ardent support of the Asotin County Fair, and he served on the fair’s Livestock Sales Committee for nearly two decades. In his spare time, John cheered on the Seahawks, the Mariners and his favorite NASCAR drivers.

A celebration of John’s life was held at the Presbyterian Church in Clarkston.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Asotin County Fair Livestock Committee, to benefit the 2009 4-H and FFA Livestock Sale, at PO Box 392, Asotin, A 99402; or to Tri-State Memorial Hospital Foundation at PO Box 636, Clarkston, WA 99403.
