Albert “Les” Fearrien
Albert Leslie Fearrien of Fearrien Angus, Hydesville, CA was
born on March 11, 1918, to Fred and Eva Fearrien, Les is
survived by his children Michael, Patricia, Kathleen, and their
spouses, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He
married Lieutenant Jean Gorski while in the service. He was
preceded in death by his wife Jean, son Norman, and brother
Fred.
Les went to South Fork High School and graduated in three years
as the class valedictorian and was also the Star State F.F.A. in
1936. He attended Humblodt State University and was a corpsman
in the U.S. Navy.
He served as director of the Humboldt County Fair for 27 years
and also as an honorary director of the fair. He was a member of
the Humboldt County Woolgrower’s Association, California State
Cattlemen’s Association, Humboldt County Cattlemen’s Association
and a member of the California Beef Improvement Association. He
also served as vice president of the California Angora Goat
Association. He was a past member of the Humboldt County
Forestry Committee and an advisor to the Advisory Board of the
Humboldt County Board of Forestry. He was a past member of the
Hydesville School District and the Humboldt County Board of
Education.
In between schooling and his military service, he ran the
Briceland Grocery Store and Post Office. Les started with very
little and accumulated enough to now have a full-time Angus
operation that will be managed by his friend and employee, Ron
Glass. A visitation for Les was held November 12, 2009, with
services on Friday, November 13, 2009, at Goble’s Fortuna
Mortuary with interment at Sunset Memorial Park, Eureka, CA. In
lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Humboldt
County Cattlemen’s Association.
