Brian & Jared Herbst, Salmon, Idaho,
have earned the National Junior Angus Association’s (NJAA) Bronze
and Silver Awards, according to James Fisher, director of junior
activities for the American Angus AssociationSM in Saint Joseph,
Mo. Brian is the 18-year-old
son of Steve and Janna Herbst, and is a recent graduate of Salmon
High School. He has shown his Angus in numerous shows at the
local, state, and national levels. He has participated in the quiz
bowl contest at the National Junior Angus Show. He has also
participated in regional Leaders Engaged in Angus Development
Conferences. His cattle are enrolled in the Angus Herd Improvement
Records (AHIRSM) Program. Brian is a member of the Idaho Junior
Angus Association and has been a member of the National Junior
Angus Association since 1996.
Jared is the 15-year-old son of
Steve and Janna Herbst, and is a student at Salmon High School. He
has shown his Angus in numerous shows at the local, state, and
national levels. He has participated in the team sales contest at
the National Junior Angus Show. He has also participated in
regional Leaders Engaged in Angus Development Conferences. His
cattle are enrolled in the Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIRSM)
Program. Jared is a member of the Idaho Junior Angus Association
and has been a member of the National Junior Angus Association
since 1996.
The Bronze and Silver Awards are
the first two levels of the National Junior Angus Association
Recognition Program that began in 1972. Junior Angus breeders must
apply for the awards and then meet point requirements in many
areas of participation before receiving the honors. Applicants are
evaluated in the areas of junior Angus association activities,
participation in showmanship and leadership competitions, using
performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in
producing and merchandising Angus cattle.
The National Junior Angus
Association promotes the involvement of young people raising Angus
cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development
opportunities for nearly 11,000 members nationwide. |
